BADLAND is a mystery adventure game developed by Gray Matter Interactive, produced by Crystal Dynamics, then published by Eidos Interactive, the same publisher that published Tomb Raider and the Lara Croft series of games.

Players adventure through a post-apocalyptic world wherein the civilization has collapsed and time has disintegrated into fragments and the modern world has been forgotten by people. There are many “lost ages” scattered in patches of other dimensions. Players are the main character of a story that was experienced by the character playing the video game, and the video game world is made not only to help the player solve puzzles but also to reflect the player’s discovery of an “apparent ordinary situation” based on “the edge of the utterly ordinary”. In other words, the world that is composed of people and objects in the video game is based on the existing world, except that there is no such thing as time or space, and that the characters are not humans. The setting of this world has all kinds of hybrid beasts such as dinosaurs, spirits, goblins, and other mysterious beings. The protagonist of the video game is called “Badland” and was created by adopting an alternative appearance.
